  1. As for Kasparov being #1… Karpov had an nearly equal score over all the matches… Only losing one or two more games than Kasparov. He aslo was at the top for longer then Kasparov.

Not saying that he was better, but the case could be made :p

    Also… Morphy.

  2. Interesting viedeo the last word "Zugzwang" is trabslateable to something like "move obligation" ,
Its a combination of two words the word "Zug" actually means ,,pull" but it can mean "Train" aswell, or in this case a "move" in a game, depending on the context just for those who are interested:)

  3. in the checkmate in 2 he didn't say "you sacrifice, THE ROOOOOOOK!"…

  4. He showed the Caro-Kann defense on his board, but it was very difficult to see. Wired did not show it. On the virtual board they only showed the beginning two moves and not the pertinent part.

  5. I'm the best chess player ever made… They call me the chesster

  6. thanks WIRED for giving him basic questions about rules which anyone can just google. Some better vetting maybe?

  7. He looks like a mix between Macaulay Culkin and Daniel Radcliffe

  8. Not the vibrating devices elsewhere during chess tournament…

  9. Levy: chess openings are named after places or people

Hikaru: allow me to introduce… THE BONGCLOUD

  10. about the checkmate thing, in my language it is literally sah matt too and it felt so good hearing levy say it lmao

  11. 21 first possible moves if you count forfeiting

  12. Actually, in several major languages other than English, it's called "Horse". I'm Brazilian and we call it "Cavalo", which literally means "Horse".

  13. Is the Fried Liver attack considered an opening? Was it named for Fried Liver, Portugal or GM Federico Fried Liver?

  14. I might not be 2500 in chess, but I was 2500 in World of Warcraft arenas once upon a time.

  15. Wow, so cool to see levy on the video to listen to the chess pro answer some questions

  16. I didn't know there was a person/place called the Fried Liver 😀

  17. 14:35 "Can you solve this puzzle by Paul Morphy, white mates in 2 moves yeah I solved it."

    That was fast.

  18. Nice, thoughtful and calm delivery; professional production. Well done!

  19. Vishy Anand definitely needs to be in the GOAT conversation. I agree with the three he listed but there's a 4th. The man single handedly revolutionized Chess in India and he was one of the biggest things to happen to chess before Carlsen and The Queen's Gambit.

  20. It's always amaze me how people expert on something

  21. Why does no one mentions Anand when it comes to great players of all time 🤔 is he just more famous in India and Europe? Less celebrated else where

  22. Funny, Kinghts are called "Caballos" in Spanish, which is the word for "Horses"

  23. Morphy was absolutely GOAT, aint nobody ever been 400 elo above the rank #2 ever after that.

  24. In Dutch, the knight is called a horse. Just saying.

  25. bro the subtitles is just blurted out at once at the start, wtf wired

  26. Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa might surpass them

  27. 12:54 i think thers 2 because if you move over to the right with the rook you could m9ve the queen up to the corner by the king also resulting in checkmate. This would probably be more of a real life strategy because you save some of your army

  28. In portuguese, the knight is called "Cavalo", which means "horse"!

  29. "shah mat" sound soo close to romanian "şah mat"

  30. They had the perfect time to say check support 😢

  31. What a great video! You know so much about chess, and you express it really understandably!

  32. I didn’t expect the Contrapoints cameo what 😭

  33. Thank you WIRED! Hope you all enjoyed the episode 😊
