The first official FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship is taking place from October 27 to November 2 in the Henie Onstad Art Center in Høvikodden, just outside the Norwegian capital of Oslo. The three online qualifiers Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Ian Nepomniachtchi join the unofficial Chess960 World Champion Magnus Carlsen in the semi-finals. A 3rd place match will be played alongside the final. The top prize is $125,000, with $75,000 for the runner-up, $50,000 for 3rd and $40,000 for 4th.

Each match consists of 12 games at three different time controls. For the first four slow games the players have 45 minutes for 40 moves then 15 minutes to the end of the game, but no increment. There are 3 points for a win and 1.5 for a draw. Then there are four 15-min games with a 2-second increment, with 2 points for a win. Finally there are four 3+2 blitz games, with normal scoring. If the match is tied a 5 vs 4 Armageddon game will be played. Official website:

  1. Magnus the boa constrictor, he really squeezed the life out of Caruana here.

  2. my man upload so fast i dont think players finshed the game

  3. I didn’t even know these types of games were a thing, am I the only one ? Lol

  4. Caruana deserves it. It makes me so angry to see him ignore Carlsen's forward pawns and allow him to push the pawns deep.

  5. That is my first time I see Random Chess and…I love it 🙂

  6. Whoa!!!!backlog increasing alarmingly………agadmator on fire😯😯😯😯

  7. Agad thank you for uploading this quickly! You have literally made my day.

  8. in a 960 chess game where white has starting rooks on A1 and C1 and white king on F1, if you would castle queenside , King on C-file and Rook on D-file , which one of the rooks is the relevant one : the A1 rook or both if castling according to 960 rules ? , and secondly is this setup even possible where queenside or kingside has both rooks on starting squares ?

  9. There was no threat from open that diagonal on queen because simply queen capture bishop with check

  10. Carlsen proves it takes something more than home preparation to be world champion. His understanding of pieces and play is levels above that of Caruana.

  11. Magnus carlsen absolutely crushed caruana, he is on beast mode

  12. "Magnus decides to play a more boa constrictor style."

  13. 3:44 was such a beauty (not really.. as a beginner it came to me as kinda surprise tbh)

  14. Its Like watching the World Championship all over again,so nice!

  15. The ad was to visit beautiful Saudi Arabia – and bring your child. Maybe a journalistic homage to Carlsen's smothering style of play before moving in for the kill?

  16. Am I the only member who sees these videos starting with the pieces in the wrong places?

  17. god. it doesn't even feel like a fair fight. beating magnus in this format with these time controls.. tis a fool's errand. might as well try to dunk on shaq.

  18. Agad wearing the same shirt as his last stream! 😛

  19. Caruana using Kasparov's principles from their match in chess 9LX

  20. 5:23 forces a draw? (By repetition)
    After,
    1) Q X c6 black has 1….Q X g3+
    2) Kg1 (only move) 2….Qh2+
    3) Kf2 (only move) 3…. Qg3+
    Then 2nd and 3rd step will repeat….

  21. regarding the quote, chess also has the power to make men feel incredibly stupid.

  22. 1:20 That position could totally be normal in regular chess!

  23. Classical chess requires chess instinct, memory and the ability to compute very deeply. Rapid Fisher random is pure chess instinct. Here Magnus seems head and shoulder above the rest.

  24. I had no idea you could castle if the rook has already moved.

  25. Fisher random, what is the rules on how the pieces are set up?

  26. I also never castle first I wait for the opponent to castle so I can threat them with some poisoned Knights and I also try to make a passive position for my opponent with my pawns so his pieces are just a spectator

  27. Why rooks are not on their natural place???
